Saddle Sizes
Wither Angle & Saddle Sizes
For the horse the FnE saddles come in 5 sizes: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, where 1 is the narrowest and 5 is the widest. The sizes are based on wither angles (in degrees) of 84 (narrow or 1), 90 (medium or 2), 96 (wide or 3), 102 (x-wide or 4), 108 (xx-wide or 5). Within each width there is a further wither angle adjustment range of about +/- 10 degrees, though this may be constrained by the rest of the back conformation, flat or hollow back for example. More information can be found on wither angle diagrams and measurement details which you will need to read if you plan to buy directly from FnE. Each FnE saddle has a unique number stamped into the left had stirrup bar, saddles with a sixth digit indicate the width in that last or sixth digit.
Seat Sizes
There are two seat sizes for the rider, 17" and 18". This is traditionally measured from the head nail to the middle of the cantle and given in inches, FnE quote the seat size on that basis. However we do actually extend the seat so it is physically larger in the middle rather than just hightening the cantle. A smaller seat size can be acheived by using a seat saver with a 1" (25mm) thickness of foam inserted.
